Folja didn't know how she became one-eyed. As long as she could remember, her parents just brushed it off whenever she asked, and she no longer bothered to find out again. She always lived alone in that 2 storied house hidden in the thick of the forest at the edge of Knackersville.
Folja never knew her parents that well because they were never home, but only visit just when Folja runs short on her sausage supply, bringing in fresh meat before they are off again. Just as well, as long as they bring in the sausages she loved so much. She didn't really care. She has a roof over her head, and food to eat.
Not all almas are one-eyed, mind you. Most have two, which allows them to have normal vision. Folja has never known how it's like to have 2 eyes, she goes about her life with just this one eye, which has served her well, as far as she is concerned. Sure, it sometimes just takes her a bit of fumbling around her house to get to the pantry for food, but as long as she does not hurt herself (she did got into minor incidents on certain occasions) she didn't mind that much.
Life is okay, all she does is eat sausages and sleep, and once in a while some Almasi friends would come to her neck of the woods for a party called The Gathering. (She's sure they are only willing to be "friends" with her because she's the only home without parental guidance.) She doesn't like the social interactions, most of the time she would be in the pantry nibbling on her sausages. It's just nice to have some company once in a while, but she's no chatty Kathy.
The only thing that troubles the Almasi tribe is The Hootles. Sure, there have been folk stories of how if you don't behave, they would come and get you. But Folja never understood how that worked. The rules were a bit unclear, or just that Folja's parents were never around long enough to tell her the full story.
Like that one time when she has her mouth magically sealed shut. Or when one of her hairy arm suddenly became hairless. How ugly! She knew it was the work of a Hootle, she just doesn't know the reason. Well, they never really left a note before they do anything to you... how was she supposed to find out what the lesson was??
And then today, she was suddenly turned into a giant. Again with no warning, rhyme nor reason.
But what made matters worse was that her house was now blown apart. It's all that Louie-10-years-old's fault! She's not sure if she could trust the human boy yet, but he seemed decent enough, the way he tried to console her, after that outburst of emotions. She decided to follow him into Knackersville. Else, what's a one-eyed giant alma gonna do in this state?
That eccentric human man with the stone house, Mr Pronobo though. He gave her a sheep's sorrel sausage. Whatever that's supposed to do, it did it a little too well. And now Folja has become the world's tiniest one-eyed alma.
The Hootles problem is now settled, surprisingly quickly. Pronobo turned them into stone statues that rained from the skies. That was a sight she never thought she'd see, ha! So at least she was entertained.
But as far as she's concerned, she is still tiny, and still homeless...
